Polyvore - One more way to fuel a shopping addiction.

May 23rd, 2008 by Eksy

Back when I had a sales job at a department store, I had a problem. A very serious problem.
As a high school kid with no serious bills to pay, being surrounded by clothing and makeup for a majority of my waking hours took its toll on me.
I became a ditzy shop-a-holic. Definitely not something I’m proud of.
Quite often I’d find myself bored at home and seeing a few hundred dollars sitting in my checking account I would rush off into the vast depths of the internet to spend it.
Thankfully, I’ve since killed that habit (although having no income leaves no choice), but it’s a good thing I didn’t know about this site, otherwise, I might have done more damage.

Somehow, I managed to come across a neat little place called Polyvore. This site contains a constantly updated catalog of images, with the majority of them being clothing, accessories, and makeup. With these images, users can create “sets” or outfits and arrange them on a canvas as they wish. Basically, if you’ve ever played with those paper dolls that used to come in birthday cards when you were 5, you’ll get the hang of this.

Example created by moi.

Browsing around, I spotted a bunch of fierce clothing ideas, but some take this tool to different level. User Kelly Kirkland-Bell is definitely one of them with her animal sets. Strange, but very neat.

Polyvore also gives users the chance to be a part of a community with similar tastes, leave comments, and participate in contests. It’s a nifty idea that might turn you on to a web shop you haven’t discovered yet or inspire some wardrobe additions you haven’t thought of.

Heatherette is about FUN.

May 22nd, 2008 by Eksy

Heatherette is definitely on the top of my favorite fashion brand list for many reasons and I have the crazy boys, Traver Rains and Richie Rich, to thank for that.

The clothing that appears in their lines are some of the most bold, forward, colorful creations ever. This comes as no surprise considering Richie’s recent past. As he was a club kid in the 80’s and 90’s, it’s easy to see where some of his inspiration comes from.

Not familiar with club kids? Then I advise this.

Watch Party Monster.
Then watch it again because it’s amazing.
Then come back and keep reading.

Even their photo shoots seem like one big party. If I ever got the chance to work with them, I’d probably cream myself.
Then clean myself up and get ready for a wicked time.

Seriously, with a spring collection like this how could you not be hooked?

Finding this label anywhere in Hawaii is nearly impossible, but I’m happy to own just one jacket by them.

Under a blacklight the best way I could describe it is radioactive visual candy.

Of course there are a few places online to shop such as Karmaloop and I’ve seen the occasional piece at Delia’s. Also, take a look at their profile on myspace for local boutiques or, if you’re interested in shoes, go to Heatherette’s home page to find these gorgeous creations.

It doesn’t stop there, though. March ‘08 brought another Heatherette and M.A.C. collaboration that was cleared off shelves in a matter of days. I believe some of the collection is still available through maccosmetics.com so take a peek before it disappears!

Alright, so if I haven’t made my point clear, definitely check these guys out, kids.
It’ll be worth it.
Promise.
